Period 2 Spring 2011


Scenario: Two high school aged kids are leaving a basketball game in their car. While driving they get pulled over by a police officer because they went through a red light. The officer then decides to search the car without probable cause, a warrant, or the drivers consent. While searching the car the officer finds marijuana in the glove compartment. Although the officer finds it he cannot use the evidence in court because it was obtained illegally.

Script:

Teenager 1: That was a great game wasnt it.
Teenager 2: Yeah it was.

Police car pulls the teenagers car over.

Teenager 1: O man what do we do?
Teenager 2: I dont know man.

Teenager 1: Just calm down and see what he wants
2: ok

Cop: Do you boys know that you ran that stop sign back there?

1: No. I didnt notice.



The police officer comes over and tells the teenagers that they ran a red light. Then out of nowhere he tells the teenagers to get out of the car and he begins to search it. The one teenager objects but the police officer continues to search until he finds a bag of marijuana in the glove compartment. The officer says that they are under arrest and he takes them to the police station. Once on trial the teenagers state that the drugs were obtained by the officer without a warrant or probable cause. So in the end the teenagers get off because of the search and seizure laws.
